[cs=2][atrb=style, padding: 8px; border-top: 1px dashed #aeaeae; opacity: 0.7;][STYLE=height: 100px; overflow: auto; font: 7pt arial; text-align: justify; padding: 6px; ]HISTORY OR EXTRA INFORMATION; delilah's entire life had been decided before she was even born. the same was true of many; created and raised in the government's new york branch, she lead exactly the life you would expect of a carefully crafted human weapon. with no one to scrutinize what took place in the facility, the conditions would be considered inhumane by most, but some took more away from their upbringing than others. plagued by her dna's constant migraines for as long as she could remember, delilah discovered early on that constantly exercising her abilities was the only relief from the build up of psychic energy that caused them. even when training left her being beaten into the ground, she learned to enjoy the battles that her kind was forced to participate in. from a very young age, this was a lifestyle she was dedicated to; her time in the facility's practice arenas made up some of her earliest and fondest memories. while she was hardly remarkable in her childhood years, this practice paid off as she grew up. she was far from the only person invested in the trials they underwent, but where others were dedicated to survive or to avoid punishment, delilah was one of the few that found a passion in the sport. her legitimate interest and proactivity in the field set her apart more and more from the rest, not necessarily in power, but in skill and cunning. she picked up new strategies quickly, and through repetition and learned prediction, there were few situations that she couldn't overcome one way or another. she was a shining specimen of what the government had been trying to achieve, and a willing one, at that. the ideal pawn. when the government's initial military project was scrapped, the fighting rings that cropped up attracted her like a moth to a flame. for as long as she could remember the point had been to improve and perfect, but now, it was a fight to win. once she had adjusted to the change of intensity, she knew she had found a calling for herself. simple fights turned into tournaments and before she knew it she was fighting a death match for the ultimate prize: freedom. lilah didn't know much about the outside world, but if this many people would put their lives on the line for it, it had to be something beyond imagination. after putting her young opponent to sleep, she hesitated only slightly before crushing the girl's throat. she wasn't just another pawn anymore, she was a champion. freedom wasn't all it was made out to be. there was no one to welcome her to the real world, no one there to show her the ropes. rid of all that she had known, she walked blindly into a life that she didn't understand, with nowhere to go and no idea where to start or what to do. the privileges she had been awarded under the care of the government--food, drink, housing--weren't nearly so available as she had come to expect, and she quickly came to the realization that this reward hadn't been what she had wanted at all. she had been where she had wanted to be, doing well what she was born to do, and she had loved it. she was free now, but she wondered if she had ever been trapped to begin with. the answer to her new found troubles had seemed simple at first. she tried to go back to her old government apartment, but the people that recognized her made it known that she wasn't welcome. the news of her victory had hardly been isolated, and now the girl who had unflinchingly murdered for liberty wasn't just sick, but ungrateful, too. even if she had chosen to stick around, things would have never returned to her definition of normal; knowing this didn't make it any less difficult to leave again. she did adjust eventually, though reluctantly. her show goes on without a hitch; figuring out the rules wasn't difficult after testing the water for a while, though there are a few that have escaped her, and more yet that she chooses to ignore. without the relief that the fights used to provide, migraines have become a regular and inescapable part of her life again, and the idea of getting a job hasn't become any less laughable with time. with no regular source of income, she finds that it's easier to squat in unoccupied houses for a few weeks at a time, and when she needs a few extra dollars for tea, she has no qualms about manipulating a bet in her favor. that being said, so long as she appears harmless and demure, people tend to just hand things over. she exploits this perk constantly. while not exactly comfortable, she's living. if only it wasn't so boring.
